Life, the universe, and everything! by Bertie Russell...
"A man who has once perceived, however temporarily and however briefly, what makes greatness of soul, can no longer be happy if he allows himself to be petty, self-seeking, troubled by trivial misfortunes, dreading what fate may have in store for him. The man capable of greatness of soul will open wide the windows of his mind, letting the winds blow freely upon it from every portion of the universe.
He will see himself and life and the world as truly as our human limitations will permit; realizing the brevity and minuteness of human life, he will realize also that in individual minds is concentrated whatever of value the known universe contains. And he will see that the man whose mind mirrors the world becomes in a sense as great as the world. In emancipation from the fears that beset the slave of circumstance he will experience a profound joy, and through all the vicissitudes of his outward life he will remain in the depths of his being a happy man."
Bertrand Arthur William Russell

Freelancing mistakes
While i first started off I didn't realise how I would run out of money very quickly: I didn’t spend Any cash on marketing. After the few smaller sized jobs ran out and there was nothing in the pipeline… I got wise...
Being a freelancer, you positively must shell out a minimum of a part of every week (a few days are just busier than other people, consequently awareness a week-by-week timeframe) doing marketing: rubbing elbows by using individuals who may need work, renovating your web site, placing ads to go out traffic to your web site, placing choices in on the web internet sites through which customers might search for yourself, … just about ANYTHING to extend one's appearance.
And don’t be scared to spend cash flow on marketing either! Well-placed for-pay sales promotions can yield 10x and up. Of course, it’s a stake, however this is it true that your industry, and businesses need visibility to grow and boom.

Poem: Geylang Greys
Usually I keep my poetry under lock and key where it belongs, not wanting to inflict it on anyone else... but just occasionally one escapes into the public domain. Comments welcome, probably!
It may help to know that Geylang is the red light district in Singapore.
It may help to know that Geylang is the red light district in Singapore.
Geylang Greys.
A man unleashed in sterile mud sees the trees, darkly,
For the wood.
Bright red Satanic Mills. Grist between the roundstone brain
And soul.
The earth is poor, the people rich, the poetry is barren
And clean.
Sing if you’re glad to be afraid, sing safely in your bed,
Alone.
A seagull hovers, lands and sniffs the air, cries right and left,
Searching, defecates. Triumphant rises, soars and cries her victory.
A sweet small plastic bag is lost and tossed away to join the swirl,
Together at last. In union blessed, and on the winded wing, exults.
The comfort of strangers, splashed in wide expensive strokes on canvas,
Torn.
Hearts ripped out quietly, efficiently, oolong anaesthetic bare,
And cold.
To sleep. And in those dreams the fading purple clouds are angry now,
Dying.
The coil shrugged. Ill-lit. By lamplight drugged. Each step a loss, each kiss,
Oblivion.

How one savvy blogger turned the tables on corporate PR bullies...
Blogger's Revenge!
Her blog is thebloggess.com and when a well known PR firm targeted her in an unsolicited and mistakenly directed campaign she responded politely but with a sharp (witty) barb.
At the PR company the VP in question forwarded the reply in-house to a colleague, having written "what a Bitch" on the email. But OH DEAR he mistakenly hit the REPLY ALL button sending the email, and his bitch comment back to The Bloggess. The insult was compounded with a non-apology belittling The Bloggess as 'lucky to receive their promotions" ...
The PR company had compounded its arrogance with ignorance. With a little research they could have discovered that The Bloggess has over 160,000 followers on Twitter alone and that her blog is extremely popular.
Her revenge was to make the whole incident public, completely humiliating the PR firm. And quite right too!
A real victory for the new digital order.

The importance of saying NO
Saying no sometimes is important.
Now I say no to family, friends and favors. I say no to rushed or last minute pressure jobs as usually these potential clients have not thought things through at all and don’t have much of an idea what they need me to do!
